Spring has sprung and the recession is slowing running away – hallelujah to both!

The Historic “Sagamore” in Reservoir Hill is now fully leased. We welcome these new tenants into the Howie B family.

First, I have a favor to ask. Please tell me one thing, or two if you like, that Howie B Properties can do better as a landlord. Email me, call me, text me, write me or send a courier pigeon, and just let me know how we can improve our services and products to you. We always want you to be very happy that you “Live w/ Howie B”.

We had a reasonably mild winter using the 2010 blizzards as our barometer. However, the weather locally and worldwide has been intense at times with heavy rains, heavy winds and other dramatic natural features. Mother Nature’s elements continue to challenge the structures of man. My heart goes out to those in Japan. We are addressing more severe weather issues with faster roof replacements, heavier-duty securer gutters and downspouts, using silver coating and rubber roofs, and furnace modifications just to name a few. Should you notice something needing our attention on any of our properties, let me know immediately.

As we all move from our recession-mindedness to a happier place, we should all remember to spend more prudently and build economic flexibility into our lives. As a suggestion, start by paying your major obligations such as mortgages, rents, utility bills, loan payments, etc. to be at least one payment ahead. This will give you the flexibility should you get into a difficulty or just forget a payment. It will help your credit scores by avoiding any late payments, save you from paying any late charges and get you closer to financial independence before you spend money on things you may not really need. Living with lower or no debt at all is a very peaceful existence. If you doubt me, try it!

If you are still in recovery from the past economic times, remember that communication with your creditors, such as Howie B, is critical! Call with specific financial arrangements of what you can realistically do; then do it exactly as you agreed. It will build your believability quotation. If you change your job, lose your job, hours get reduced, change your living arrangements, etc. call and talk to me. I will see what can be done to assist your situation. No promises, but no communication – you definitely get nothing.

A Few Reminders

1)    The clocks have added daylight hours -- that means it is time to change the batteries in all of your smoke and CO2 dtectors. In addition, you should always have extra batteries on hand should it “chirp” and tell you to refresh its batteries.

2)    Clear any drains extending from the roof of your property and in the curbs so water can flow easily.

3)    Please be our eyes in common areas, inside and out, and let us know if you see and problems that need our attention. We visit our properties very regularly, but do not get there as often as you do.

4)    Use your ceiling fans to help reduce your energy costs.
